Essential Packing List for Solo Travelling in Iceland

Iceland is home to all sorts of landscapes – and weather. Check the Icelandic Met Office’s site to see how quickly it changes! You can have 10 degrees Celsius in one place and -12 in the other.

I went on a 7-day solo trip around Iceland in April – the most unpredictable of months. Keep in mind I was travelling on a budget, and packing light. Here is a list of what I brought with me:

  • A really useful backpack (accepted as “small item” hand luggage in airlines; I also use it for my everyday work/gym commutes): link for US | link for Europe
  • The book I’m reading – 8 Rules of Love, by Jay Shetty: link for US | link for Europe
  • A pair of boots: Quechua Bionassay Marron Fonce with Heel Guard Concept, Novadry and Essensole (I have them since 2015 and they’re still going strong)
  • Columbia Titanium Omniheat Infinity ski jacket: link for US | link for Europe
  • A pair of Decathlon ski overpants for extra heat and impermeability: link
  • A pair of Swany SX-65 snow gloves: link for US | link for Europe
  • 1 Quechua polycotton mummy sleeping bag liner, size L: link
  • Petzl Tikka Plus 2 headlight: link for US | link for Europe
  • Tasco 10×32 binoculars: link for US | link for Europe
  • Airinum Urban Air Mask 2.0 (useful for planes!): link for US | link for Europe
  • My travel hoodie from PullnBear
  • A pair of really comfy and convertible cargo pants from Decathlon: link
  • 9 boxers; 9 pairs of thermic socks; 9 polyester thermal t-shirts; 2 pairs of polyester thermal underpants
  • My Tommy Hilfiger swimsuit – which I regrettably forgot after my last fjord bath 🙁
  • A SeatoSummit DryLite microfibre towel: link for US | link for Europe
  • A pair of Lidl’s Livergy slippers
  • 2 thermal emergency blankets
  • A bit of a first-aid kit: Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Fortasec
  • Hygiene essentials: solid shampoo, body wash and deodorant, brush, face and hand cream, toothbrush, toothpaste, antiseptic gel, lip balm
  • Travel documents: passport or EU national ID, international driving license, health insurance card, credit card
  • Miscellaneous: phone charger, tote bag, headphones, winter pyjamas; a pack of tissues
  • A Buff and sunglasses – but I did rent my car with CampEasy and they gave me a sleep mask, a Buff, sunglasses and a frisbee! They provide a first aid kit too!
